Default Tried my first Photoshop

Actually I'm too cheap to go out and buy the program so I downloaded a free program from filehippo.com called Gimp2. It took a bit of work but I finally managed to finish even though it is a little rough around the edges I'm pretty pleased with it. There's some white showing in spots and a couple small areas I missed but I think it looks pretty good.

It's not a bad program once you get used to it. Let's see how long photobucket lets this one stay up, it is cartoon nipple after all!

I downloaded the program...

when you made your sig pic...did you make layers and what did you use to "cut out" your motorcycle and put it on a transparent background??

I'm trying to figure out this GIMP

I've done it two ways so far, both are pretty time consuming. The first way I took a the pic of my bike and used the free select tool to cut out the areas you could see through the bike. I then Left clicked on them > layers > Transparency > color to alpha. This installed a wierd checkered pattern that when put on the other photo ended up being transparent. The other way I did it was cut the bike out itself and paste it on the picture as a layer I wanted as a background. Then I went through and selected all of those areas with the free select tool and deleted them. When I deleted them it allowed the background to be visible in the areas I cut out. If you go into my photoshop album here you can see the 4 steps I took to get this last one done. Hope this helps OJ, for me it was just a lot of trial and error.

That's some neat work. I'd like to do one similar to that using a photo of my bike and then print it off on an iron-on transfer for a tee-shirt.

Unimoose...I tried what you advised and for some reason the transparency does not save. In the above quote..you said you left clicked?? That doesn't work for me, did you mean right click?? I'm able to get the checkered pattern but when I save it, it goes away. How were you able to save the transparency??? That's where I'm struggling..any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

OJ, I did mean right click. When you save the file you need to make sure the extension is the GIMP format and not .jpg or .bmp to save the layer change you are making. Let me know if that helps. I've got another one in the works with a H-D script I'm trying to manipulate so it adds some depth to the pic... definitely not as easy as I thought it would be.

Okay I finally got around to trying and finishing up a different one. I have another girl I'm working on putting on my bike but now that I have a new pic of the bike I have to start all over again. This girl is easier to work with because all I have to do it put her on the bike and rotate her slightly to get her foot on the brake pedal and butt in the seat. At least this time all of her hair made it!

It's getting there, the program still kicks my butt from time to time but I think I have it about 60%. I need to figure out how to get my reflection and other stuff out of the chrome and the green out of the left side mirror though.
