Default Maybe a Firefox Incompatability?

Look at the two screen shots. Is this a Firefox incompatibility? I can still use it for the most part but just wondering. It appears Firefox doesn't understand the icons. I've seen this before when I try to control what colors are displayed but I turned that off here and it still displays the icon words instead of symbols. Just wondering. Nothing I can't live with.

I use Firefox on one of my machines and it doesnt do that. I dont know what you might have going on. Maybe try to delete your Firefox preferences and cookies.

I use FireFox pretty much exclusively. I switched to it after IE started causing problems with it's caching scheme. Love FireFox and don't have any issues ...

Probably a setting on your end ...

Well that figures. Problem with Firefox is it stores so much stuff, trying to find the one thing that might be causing a problem is almost impossible. This is the only site this is happening on. I've gone back to default settings once before and it is a real pain to rebuild to get back where you were.

I've dumped cache and even rebooted, still the same. The last time something similar happened Firefox complained of a Java error. And I removed and replaced EVERYTHING relating to Java that I could find and it still complained. Going back to Default was my only out. This time no error messages, just not displaying the icons.

Got any idea what area to look at? I won't go back to Default unless things keep getting worse. It is just a pain to recoup.

Maybe try using the Chrome browser and see if everything works there?

Not sure on the Firefox settings as I've never had to play with them ... it just works!

Weird how that blows up for you tho ...

that's just weird that your Firefox isn't working..mine works fine. I also use Chrome and no problems.

Try a google search and type the problem you're having in Firefox

Well I just fired Firefox up with an older version of defaults. Everything is just peachy. So something in my Defaults is buggered. But WHAT????? This is the one thing about Firefox that irks me. When something goes wrong(and it will) the problem is buried so deep it's almost impossible to find.

At least as a result of problems from the last time I have older versions of Default. But I have no idea what to look for here. Got to be something that controls icons but what. It's not like I went in and changed things around for just this site. It's one Default for all sites.

Thanks but no thanks. I don't like anything google. Don't use their search engine either. Use duckduckgo or ixquick. Usually the duck.

I got a question in at Firefox. Their first question was "Are you blocking images?". Well if I am I don't know how I did it. Is there a profile or something for this site that that could have got changed in? All I do is bring it up from a bookmark. I have no idea where I would say to block images for this and only this site. Makes no sense to me. But I'm still looking. I do now know it's some the in "about:config" but exactly what I don't know. Worst come to worst I've found a way to go back to Default without losing bookmarks and passwords and a lot of other little things that gets set in Firefox.

guess the only thing to do is check in your settings......how about another clean install?.....save your bookmarks and then delete Firefox entirely from your computer, clean your cache & history, reboot and then do a fresh install from the Firefox website??? Might be more trouble than it's worth though

I've tried fresh installs. But when you delete Firefox it does not delete the file it puts defaults in. I think but not sure that is "about:config". But it gets confusing to me because Firefox also talks about a "Default" file and it appears to be different. You can have Firefox revert to defaults but then you loose bookmarks and passwords and those don't appear to be in "about:config". It's all magic. I'm still waiting on a reply from the Firefox folks. If they don't come up with something, I'll first try going through the special hoops to revert defaults that leaves bookmarks and passwords alone. I'd like to find the "one" thing that got buggered. This is the second time a site as gone south on me for no reason that I know of. I think they have a bug and I'm the luck SOB that finds it. Something somewhere is writing something bad and I'd like to know what.

Chrome is just as bad if not worse. It writes stuff to special files too. So when things happen there it's the same. Revert to default and start over. I know enough about Firefox to be darn dangerous. I have it doing things and controlling colors that you wouldn't believe. I had to turn off stuff just to get pictures to prove to myself that some of the things I'm doing wasn't rewriting things for this site. But I'm sure in there somewhere is a mark of some kind on some file that is clobbering this site. The Firefox folks should be able to give me a clue but they can be very slow to respond. Especially if it might be exposing a bug. Know what I mean!?!

I know who to ask now when I got browser questions! Seems you got quite a bit dialed in HC! I'm sure you'll get the about:config figured out too! Maybe one of them hidden files that seem to stick around even when you 'fully' delete a program. Forget what you call them but companies always seem to know if you've previously installed their stuff.

This is what the site looks like when I have my stuff turned on. I don't like white backgrounds. My eyes just seems to see certain colors better than others so I control a lot. I just wish I knew exactly when this started happening. I lived with it for some time now and thought I would ask. Guess I should have asked sooner but I thought it was some site maintenance going on. But on on on I thought maybe not. Dang! Yep, it's a file somewhere and tied to javascript. Sometimes it has to do with a Mac too.

I use a MAC and a PC. Firefox works on both. However I have started using Safari on my MAC as Firefox isnt supported for the older MACs anymore.

Try Safari to see if the site views correct.

Oh I can get Firefox to display properly. I just don't want to start all over with a new default. I got something buggered in my Defaults or "about:config".

I found it. The extension ADBLOCK PLUS is causing problems on select sites. This site is one of the lucky ones I guess. I got another blocker but plus allowed me to select which ones rather than a blanket all of them. Some Ads aren't annoying but what ever. It's been found and all is almost good. Wasn't this fun? Two wasted days!

HC, nothing has been removed. Always good to have new info here, regardless of the topic. Dunno what you're not seeing.

Hmmm. Maybe I had it all ready and failed to "Submit Reply". Chalk it up as old age. Or yet another brain fart. Here's what they had to say about the Adblock Plus I am using again now. I just exempted this site from been blocked.

Adblock Plus doesn't actually choose which sites/images to block. It provides a framework and sets of "subscriptions" tell it what to block. Not all subscriptions are very good but I've been using EasyList and EasyPrivacy for years with little to no problems. When you DO encounter problems, you can report them to the people who maintain the lists by going to Menu > Tools > Adblock Plus > Report issues on this page and fill out a full report. Note that there are a few websites out there that are doing some rather nasty things with embedding trackers into all of their images or buttons that makes the site simply break... I've seen it a few times and decided those sites are not worth visiting.

It's also possible that you could have accidentally created a filter by clicking on a little box labelled "Block" that sometimes appears on content. Ctrl+Shift+E will bring up the sets of subscriptions and you can click on the Custom Filters tab to see if you have accidentally made anything.
