Default thinking of building a bike.

Ok first I really don't have much experience in this, but that's really not the point. I also haven't really looked into it yet as far as research. Anyway my point is. My dad grew up building old honda choppers. He has'nt made one in a long time and has been talking about building another one or any chopper period. So I was thinking of starting my research in to us biulding one together. That way I have something that I can truely say my dad and I made together. You have to first understand that we don't always get along. So really this will be a bike that maybe we can come togather and build. Then I would always have something to remember him by down the road. Some thoughts he has had is getting a rolling sportster frame and building from that. What are yall's thoughts and any good places to get ideas on what parts to start with first? This project will take a while to do as funds come in, but I do want to get started sometime in the near future while he is still alive. Not that he is going to die anytime soon, but you get my point.

I think if I were to venture into that I would base it on a Softail.

I think it's a great idea. An heirloom. If ya don't go HD, I've always liked Triumph. Right now Triumph Bobbers are really big.

Great idea's guys. Keep them coming. Don't know what we'll do yet. really I haven't even talk to him about it. I just know every time I'm over there at his house he keeps talking about building one. So one day I would like to come over with the frame and wheels and say we're going to build one. I'm assuming starting with the frame first, right? I know there is a book called How to buld a chopper on a budget. They use the rolling sportster frame. I may get him the book for fathers day. Atleast it something to get him besides bass pro shop gift cards all the time.

if youre gonna get a rolling sporty chassis,, you can get weld on hard tails for them real easy.. looks ace..

Basically i am with Pepe on this,, go and buy "The Horse" and check out all the web sites linked to guys like "Chopper Dave" etc..

you could build a sweet scoot for not a massive amount..

Pep, you and I have about the same taste in bike styles. I like everything but the tail light location and the signal light style. The rest looks ol' school.
