Heat Deflectors
Anybody try those heat deflectors that mount under the seat to keep from frying your legs on a tourer? I'm tempted, but I'd love to talk to someone who has had them for a year. Still in all, I'm grateful they are a site sponsor.

I rode over to Ohio about a month ago with three friends to the HD Dealer. One of the guys bought a set while we were there. Talked to him on the phone last week and he said it cut the heat by better than 50%. He said his wife noticed a big difference in the passenger seat too. Guess I should have went that route before investing $1200.00 in true duals, heavy breather and the SE Tuner!!! Bike is a LOT cooler and performs a LITTLE better. LOL!!!

I actually gave him a deal, free advertising for a month. I have the product on my heritage. My GF was complaining about right leg heat and it was more than warm for me too. I put these on and life has been much much much cooler. I ride to the gym all the time with shorts on and I couldn't do that before. HD was trying to come out with their own set but RJ has the patent on them. I HIGHLY recommend the deflectors. I didn't realize how bad it was before I put them on. That was a few months ago and I ride almost daily. World of diff and one less thing for the gf to complain about. They run about $150 or so.

I have the Harley ones and love them. Went to Atlanta in July, got stuck in an Interstate wreck back up in Chattanooga. The bike got so hot it was makiing strange noises, through it all I did not have the hot thighs that I used to get on my 2000 Ultra going across town. The Harley ones look to be a little better than the Kuryakin (sp) ones. The ones on the forum sponser look OK. I just had mine installed as part of the purchase of the new bike. It seems to me that Harley has the fix for all theese little problems why don't they just fix the bikes. Yesterday I bought the fuel filling block of rubber to keep the gas from splashing on the tank. Seems to work but then again why not fix the tank?

Think I'm going to have to break down and buy me some..either the RJ's or the HD's. Rode today in the hot S.C. sun and smoggy heat and man my legs were burining.
For my bike, I have the adjustable back rest so I think only the RJ's will work on my bike...anyone else have the adjustable back rest where the adjusting lever is down by your right thigh, what do you have??? (sorry fortbrisco, didn't intended to steal your thread with my inquiry)

OJ, I have read a lot of posts on these and my take on it is if you have the adjustable back rest RJs are the only ones that will work. I have also gotten the feeling they are a lot better. I myself dont have any, havent yet felt like I needed them.

I have the adjustable back rest and the guards do not interfer with it. Just call RJ and he'll tell you if they will work on any particular bike, He's a cool dude and is willing to help!

I had an 04 Ultra and fried the "boys" on several rides. When I got the 08 Ultra, the HD shields came stock. They work!!! We just did 4200 miles on a trip, some hot & some cold, no problem with overheating the family jewels or thighs. The HD shields work great.

+1 on the RJs...I get a lot of comments too. They look great.
Must say though Daughter still complains about the heat on her right foot.

Maybe it is just that my bike isn't as new as some here...but I don't notice a tremendous amount of heat coming up off my '03 EG Standard...
It does get hot but nothing like being described above...

Yep...they leaned the '07 and '08 models out so bad for emission purposes that they fry you on hot days, especially at stop lights and slow traffic. Cost me right at $1500.00 to cool the Ultra down. Getting rid of the cross-over cured about 95% of the problem and the tuner took care of the rest. I think the '09's are cooler on the rider because of the revamped exhaust but still run too lean.

I've got the HD heat shields on my 07 Ultra and they made quite a difference. I later put the Fulsac true dual conversion on the bike and that helped even more. I needed all the help I could get here in the desert!

RA...I kinda like those from RJ's.....you can still use the adjusting lever for the adjustable backrest...the HD's & Kuryakyn you cannot!

Yep, that's another reason I went with RJ's.

Here's another vote for RJ's. I was about to order, based on the reviews here and elsewhere when I saw that he only lives about 40 miles from me. So I called him to ask if I could just come purchase them directly. It was going to be a great day for a ride and I had the afternoon off and he said "sure, no problem"
I got there and met RJ. Very cool guy. He had me ride my bike into his garage and proceeded to help me pull off what needed to be pulled off and then he pretty much installed them for me and wouldn't accept anything for doing so. He took extra time to make sure it was done right and even spent ten minutes hunting down a bolt for the back of my seat, since mine was missing from the time I bought the bike on Tuesday.
Honestly, I wasn't that wild about the look in the pictures on the website, but in person, these things look great. Very nicely compliments the look of the bike and they absolutely work great. It was a hot day and as others have mentioned the 08's run hot. Mine does and I could feel the heat coming off the front of the engine yesterday, but back where my thighs had been getting roasted before, they felt just fine.
RJ works out of a pretty humble workshop, he isn't making a fortune on these things, but he puts his heart into his product and it shows. I highly recommend them.

As for the gas splashing on the tank:
When I fuel, I take my gas cap, turn it upside down and put the fuel nozzle in the upside down gas cap. I then move the two over the tank and put the nozzle in the tank opening. After topping off, I do the same in reverse and haven’t had a drop of fuel on the tank since I started doing that.
