Default How to-removing rear turn signals 99 Sporty

I'M In the process of removing my rear turn signals from my 99 Sportster. The electrical disconnect was no problem and I understand that I have to first remove the chrome rear fender supports to access the nut that holds the turn signal assembly. The fender supports are mounted using the hardware for the detachable sissybar sideplates

The front torx unscrewed without any problem once the nut was loosened. The rear torx however is giving me grief. It doesn't appear to have a nut in back but rather a plastic or rubber piece about 1/2 inch thick to which the torx appears to be screwed. I looked at a schematic of the fender and there appears to be a clip to which the torx screws into. Is there a trick to removing the rear Torx? Is there a nut hidden under the clip that I'm missing?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I belive that from INSIDE of fender (between the tire and strut) there is a 1/2" bolt you need to unscrew, then the turn sigs will loosen and finally come off.
