Handlebars, construction thereof...
let's talk about bars, shall we?
My Sporty has drag bars that kick back about 2 inches on each end. They are chromed steel as you would expect.
I'm considering making my own bars out of 1" aluminum tubing. Anyone have any experience with this or ideas? I'd like them to come back another inch or so.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Think you should consider buy some bars from Renthal.

but, but, but,
I was thinking schedule 80 aluminum, thick wall, and fitting them to ME instead of doing what someone ELSE thinks I should have.
You know?

yup,, ya know i agree,, its a cool idea and go for it,, the bars you think up and find cool to ride with could well be bars that a lot of other people would dig...
you gotta do it,, and good luck, post pix

Yep, that's what I thought.
I didn't get the comment about an engineering firm though.
I've decided to go with 32" long, 5" pull back, drag style of course, drilled for the wires AND...
I'll melt lead into a piece of water pipe and secure that into each end of the bars to dampen vibration.

oh THAT. We did it ourselves with a tubing bender and the proper dies. Unfortunately we didn't get the bends done without the tubing cracking.
SO, we 'sperimented with annealing the aluminum before bending. Worked peachy.
SO, now we will try annealing a good piece and starting over.
Why aluminum? Why not he said ! Light, fancy when polished, you know, different. I'll be interested to see if the aluminum holds up. If not, I have some 1" stainless tubing that will become the next set of bars.
never, ever, give up.

I think making drag bars out of a nice broom handle would look different too, polish them up and hit the road. I think I will use my ex-wife's broom she flies around on, yeah that would be cool.
OKay I gotta get, I have a turd ambush to make.

Ok, ok, jeesh. A guy can't have ANY fun around here.
I just got a piece of 1" 3140 that I'll be using instead of the broomstick.
So there.

Glass, a heavy gauge glass like them fancy dildos are made of (Pete told me about them). Glass bars, that would be different.

Now I'm checking into acrylic tubing.
I wonder if 1/4 wall is thick enough. I think black might look good, maybe yeller.

How you figure 8? .001mm converts to pretty thin.

I FINALLY figured out what to use.
I cut the metal caps off each end of a flourescent light tube and it fits just fine.
Yep.
