Replacing fork sliders on a deluxe
Hello,
I am looking at getting chromed fork sliders for my 07 deluxe. I don't want to pay the dealer to replace them. Is it difficult to do? Do I need any special tools? Thanks

The only thing special I can think of that you need is a long 7mm allen ( I think its a 7 look in manual for sure )

You know what....... I never was able to find that damn thing, by itself anyway.
I had to improvise and ream out the whole in the bottom in my old lower, bolt was so fricking tight.

You also need a seal installer.
A trip to your local hardware store to pick up a piece of PVC will fix that up.

Hmmm. I've gotten by with just an allen wrench and a box end over it for leverage, just to break it loose .

Thanks for the tips. One more question. Can the sliders be replaced while the fork assembly remains on the bike or do I need to remove the fork from the bike? I'am guessing I will need to remove the fork but it does't hurt to ask.

I had a hell of a time getting mine cracked loose with a allen socket on a long handled ratchet.

You need to pull to pull your lowers out.
Dont take this the wrong way OC, but you really need to pick up the service manual for your bike. Spending 50 bucks will save you hundreds.

Thanks FL,
It's me again trying to be cheap (my wife tells me all time). I will pickup a service manual tomorrow.

Thanks, I got my new sliders last weekend. The service manual was helpful. I swapped the sliders without too much difficulties. The only issue I had was with the allen plugs. I had to borrow an impact wrench. I'll post new picks when I get back in town.
