Default looking for info on swapping out the Evo

Lost oil in my 1992 evo. I shut it down within a mile of noticing the power loss. It turns over still, but won't start. Looking for ideas to either build it or trying to swap a 96 ci for more power. So far, looks like I would need the entire motor and trans assembly. Would the 96 from a newer bike work in my 92 frame? Money is tight, so looking for ideas and suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I just happen to have a '92! So, the tranny is different, but other than that, i think it will bolt in. I do know that the '93 up tranny use a different case; that's the difference. Should be able to bolt it up with no problem: take a look at the tranny mount to make sure.

Evo engines will need a Evo type replacement , so a newer engine wouldn't fit A Lot depends on your mechanical skills on the cost of rebuilding or replacing your engine. Do you know why your engine won't start ? or if it is damaged internally? Evo engines are probably one of the best engines Harley ever built and are easy to work on. If you are looking at rebuilding it there are a few way's to go , you can go to 124 cube on a rebuild but that will take a fare bit of machine work and some Evo frames won't take a stroked/taller engine. The Evo gearbox will handle the extra grunt but if you go to say 124 cube engine they will destroy spoked rear wheels I'd say the cheapest way to upgrade your motor would be headwork, high comp pistons , cam and carb or look through the classifieds for a cheap engine or salvaged and repo harleys you might get a cheapie that way. Have a look at J&P Cycles website and put your model bike in and then look up engines , that'll give you a some idea of pricing. Good luck and let us know how you went mate

Well, ya know the old saying: if i can't help ya, i don't wanna hurt ya. So, this the the bare bones cheap assed way i would go: another Evo motor that'll bolt right in; $2800 bucks. I been following Pinwall for years, good people. https://pinwallcycle.com/product_inf...ucts_id=635277
Hope this helps. A 96 cubic inch is not going to be a bolt in proposition, but they do sell adapters if you're so inclined.

Compression is 60 in the front and 30psi in the rear. So, looks like I am going to rebuild the motor using a big bore kit for added HP. Cheapest way to go, as long as I didn't hurt the crank/rods.... will find out tomorrow when I pull the motor and tear it apart....

Love pictures. You more than likely fried the bottom end bearings, too. No use throwing good money after bad: get another motor, and be done with it. Just my .o2 cents. I only do new top ends to good, running motors. Just sayin'.
