Default Ok, I have a plan......

Ok I have a plan......maybe I am planning on doing the R.O.T. next year and then having a couple of weeks just riding around Texas and New Mexico. So I am thinking I might buy a second hand bike to ride in the States , then when I've finished , store it at a Harley dealers because the following year I'd like to do Sturgis again.

What I need to Know is: What taxes and other cost do you get hit with when you buy a bike in the good ol' U.S of A ? What is the story with registration ? and do you know if a Harley dealer would store the bike for me if I payed them too ? We are planning to ride to Sturgis from Chicago via the HD museum , so i'd have to get the bike shipped to Chicago. We looked at hiring through Eagle Rider but for about three and a half weeks it'll come to about 4 grand and thats without hiring again for Sturgis. Last Sturgis we did we shipped our bikes from Australia but that was for 8 weeks so it was way cheaper than hiring

So any info would be good , cheers

Eagle rider is out of control pricing IMO. There's got to be a member in TX or nearby who's got some land and room for toys and can store yours? Shipping bikes around can cost 400 to 1000 a whack and there is various levels of shipping from crating to tie downs.

One of the other mods who doesn't show up much anymore (hell, he's old and whiney) is FL. He's in Nebraska but might be able to help you out. You could buy a bike and register it, and the following year if you're not coming you can sign a cert of non-op and pay a minimum fee. You can always reinstate it when you know you'll be there. Or maybe pay a HD dealer with your left nut to store it. You Aussies have all the dough anyway, so whats another few sheckles ...

Yeah mate Eaglerider want at least one testicle and being married........ I am a H.O.G. member so I should really use it and see if the MoCo can get me any discount . I haven't heard from old FL for a long while, since he started selling vapes.....perhaps he can't find the computer through the smoke . So you can suspend your registration when you're not using your bike......did I read that right? What is bike rego worth roughly any how?

Chris -wouldn't any of your friends here on the Forum put your bike up for you? I don't have any room in my garage, but i can make some. when i bought my bike in Kansas, they nicked me for quite a bit in state taxes. a non-op here in calif. is cheap -around 60 bucks. Let me know -Tom

Thanks for the kind offer mate, much appreciated I Forgot to mention there may be two bikes, the couple who came to Sturgis with us also want to do this upcoming trip and they always copy what me and the wife do But like all great plans they are prone to change.....we are now going to try and go to the Red River run before heading to the R.O.T. rally . I tried to book a bike through the H.O.G site from Eaglerider as H.O.G. members are supposed to get discount , but the price was the same if I booked it directly off Eaglerider, so I fired a email off to H.O.G. and they are looking int it, so see what happens there
