Soooooo I heard from Howard at Motorcycle Metal about my Ohlins. I have to tell you this guy is something else. Ohlins doesn't sell that large a selection of chrome springs so whatever springs I get will have to be chromed after the fact. Howards concern is the springs and the difference between when I am on the bike and when my wife is on the bike so rather than send me a set of springs he is not 100% sure will be the right springs for me he is sending me the complete shock for a test ride! When was the last time you ordered something from anyone online and were able to try them out first?????? My shocks will be here in a few days and I am PRAYING for nice weather to try them out. Of course to be fair to Howard I am the one covering the shipping on this and he did ask me first about it but this is the second or 3rd time I have talked to him since placing my order to make sure I am getting my moneys worth.

Oh it gets better amazingly enough! I got the shocks in today and put them on the bike. It sits pretty tall as the shocks are measured at 13.5" but when I get on the seat drops considerably. I spoke to Howard and he gave me some technical stuff to do as far as measuring. He told me to put a couple hundred miles on the shocks to see if they suit me and go from there. I own the shocks already so it's not a big deal he just wants to make sure I am happy with the spring set up before chroming them.

I don't know, he's working on something with them but said I should go with the 13.5" shocks. Here's a pic of them on today...

Tomorrow I will measure the before and after because the bike drops considerably when I sit on it. I would have to guess close to 2". It sounds odd as hell but Howard is still working the springs between me riding alone and my wife being on it so these are just a trial run according to him. I did like the ride today with them once I realized I wouldn't bottom out on them.

They sound a bit soft. I get less than an inch drop. Fast bends you need to reign in the Dyna swing arm, I'm thinkin you should crank those springs up so the top adjuster ring is 25 - 30 mm from the steel ring at the top of the pre load adjuster thread.

I have to send him the measurements of drop so he can get everything right for me. It's going to be a trial and error thing but in the end it should all be very well worth it as the springs will be completely custom for me.
