Well I do kind of covet those shocks you got there. Why bother with turn signals? Just use your arms.

well you got to have them over here if they were originally fitted to the bike and they are also linked to the alarm and diagnostics
so the ones i got a so fckin small most people dont notice them, even after they have been staring at the bike for 10minutes

so on the basis of current progress, the seat will be shipping some time for the start of 2010 season?
Don't you think you have gone a little over board with the padding? Hope you know the number for a really good arse doctor.

ok,, so i got the shape and size i want figured out, next i removed the seat and battery box/electrical caddy bolts & covered the area with some cling film to protect it from the ally mesh i used to form the general seat pan shape. Basically you just push, beat, pound on the mesh until its fitting nicely to the area. See first two pix:
i poked out the holes where the bolts go and i will keep these open as i got through the fiberglass process.
Next i made the "fender" portion of the seat unit and wired it into place. Then with it all stable i laid the pan on the bike and made sure all angles, lines, curves etc worked. See next pix:
OK,, so i got the finished shape of the seat pan including the tail,, next step is to cut thin strips of glass mat to use as fillets, to strengthen specific areas on the seat unit. If i went straight in and tried to lay a full sheet of glass on i could damage the fairly fragile shape,, so its best to start small, get some strength into the unit and then hit it:
OK,, so thats it for now,, going to carry on with it tomorrow and for those not completely bored yet will post up the next steps

Looking good SK8, I did all my racing fairings, have done a lot of fiberglass work. Do yourself a favor, wear some rubber gloves, you'll be itchy as hell, and anyone you touch in your house will be as well, regardless of how many times you wash your hands....

I use to get cocky with it, and then I would be itchy for days. Make sure you get all the bubbles out before it sets. The best way to apply the mix, is with a paint brush, and then just poke/tamp it with the same brush, in between every layer, tho you may already know that.

ok,, here the basic seat pan is now rigid, although there is a lot more glass to lay down. I got a strip of ally and bent it around the cut shape of foam i want to use. The next step is to cut a groove for the ally to sit in before i get into some more glassing, from the edges up to the ally, thus creating a recess for the seat to sit into..

todays update
ok so from last time,, the ally edging is glassed in with tissue and then P40 is layered down around the edge to build up the shape and leave the recess for the seat pad..
then i wired in little mesh fillets to the kick tail, to give it more depth etc and once secure, flipped it over and "tacked" the mesh in place from the underside..
then working on the top again, i covered the kick tail and blended the glass into the main seat..
so it may look like an amorphous blob right now,, but its gonna get a full days shaping with a mouse sander tomorrow, will post an update then...
the only worry i have is the fckin thing is small ,, very small,, not sure i am gonna fit onto it,, think the bike will look good, because its so minimal,, but dunno about 600 mile days with it
