Money is tight .. what mods would you do first before long trip.
I have a stage one on my 2011 street bob that has reasonable power so no engine mods for me this year. Running bubs pipes and S.E. heavy breather air cleaner. May cam it next winter.
Just wondering if you were to change just a couple of things before a long road trip what would they be. ?
Bike is stock except for stage 1, handlebars and hwy pegs. I am running mid controls and am very happy with them.
Pete suggested 412 progressive shocks over the stockers and I think ill go that route. Any other mods worth doing that are not a total pocket drain? (I know , I know mods cost money). Gonna ditch the syn 3 for mobil 1 now that the bike has 4000 miles on it.
Would love to hear your suggestions in case you remember something I have forgotten.
Thanks for reading and helping out.

Stock seat might not be bad for long trip. Got a lepera bare bones to it out and had a sore a@$ on the why back. Dad has a Corbin's seat looks good but he said the same thing I said. Unless your getting a touring seat

Im using a terry components TV3 tuner which works really well for a stage 1 bike. Also helps with the constant altitude changes I make as it keeps the motor at either stock cruising or 13. 5 (if i remember correctly) under load regardless of altitude. May eventually get a SERT or a SEPRT if I do any engine work to it but that is way down the road.
Im pretty much having to choose between riding and mods this year so Im gonna ride. I think ill be able to handle shocks and a detach. fender rack to throw a sleeping bag on. thanks for the responses. I know there is not a lot you can do to a bike with out a pretty sizable cash outlay.
If I had the cash id do plenty of rocket bob and southeast custom cycles stuff.. and probably a SE 120 R motor to boot but I may just have to be happy with a fairly stock bike for awhile and that is fine too... see you on the highway this summer .

Thank you pete .If you ever get over to the usa ill ride by the shop . I have been using syn 3 oil since the beginning. From what I have read Syn 3 is a synthetic blend . Just thought id upgrade to mobil 1 .
Thanks for the input. I always appreciate your experience and knowledge. Would you go back to dino till 10 k , continue to use Syn 3, or just go ahead and use Mobil 1? Im always a bit confused on the hows and whats of oil. Just know I like synthetic better then dino. I can get mobil 1 here at the local auto store (the v twin version of mobil 1) for really cheap.
I appreciate your time..

The cheapest mod I know of that can make your night riding a hell of a lot safer is to replace the stock H4 headlight bulb with something brighter than the law allows. I figure if the cages are allowed TWO 55watt headlights, there's nothing wrong with me running a single 100watt high beam. I run the low beam at daytime, but when I need light to see where I'm going, I run with my high beams on. I adjust them a bit lower, so as not to blind oncoming traffic.

Backrest, yeah I know geezer glide stuff. But it takes the windload off your arms and shoulders. Great for distance of any kind.

My best advice is run dino til 10k. Change regularly, but do not go synthetic anything.
Every motor we have pulled down on synthetic has had glazed bores.
Harley's need a good long time on dino before you switch. You motor will last longer.
The key to Oil is change regularly

Im traveling light this year and just gave my camera to my sweetie as she is a bird/ nature photographer who takes pics everyday. I agree this is some beautiful country. Oh and I will be watching for deer , more deer and deer (also elk, moose, bear, etc).... almost forgot the antelope they like to sproing. If I can get another camera before I go ill try and get some pics for you. Best advice I can give you is save your pennies and come see it for yourself. You cant beat the memories of riding . Thanks for the well wishes.
