Default Rear tire 18" => 180/55 vs 200/50

Hi everybody,

I'm presently in progress to change my rear end

A new rim in stainless steel (5,5x18) is ordered and on the way. Will use the OEM hub, but powdercoat it and will go for black spokes. Rim will stay polished stainless steel (same set up I made for the front wheel, see attached picture).

Discussed on several occasions already which tire to use I know that in regard to available space and so on the 200 is not a problem, providing I will "clean" the fender from inside, because the only "real" critical point is the wiring for the turnsignals.

Before I'm going to order the tire now, I would like to make a last check on the look Certainly everybody says the wider the better, but since I go with the Dyna OEM (but shortened) fender, same as the Dyna chopped fender (no tail light/plate etc), I'm still wondering a bit, how the rear tire will blend in, in regard to the profile (overall look from the side)

With the OEM fender the bike is slightly old school. That is a bit different from a radical cut rear end, where definetely wider is much better than small. If I would go for e.g. a pintail seat, a 200, or even more botoxed is for sure the solution.

Long story short => any pix available with a 180/55 (18 inch!!) on a DYNA with OEM fender? Pics of beautifull mods with 200x18, I saw on RIC's very clean bikes . Somehow I'm afraid that the 200 rear tire comes across a little bit to racy (on my bike), due to the low profile. Don't know how the 180/55 does look.

Thanks for some opinions and pictures

Greets
Mike

180mm setups....

200mm setups (I normally run a 17x6.25 w/ the 200...fits better)

I prefer to use the 180 in all honesty. I use the Metzler (which is wider than the Avon) and it fits nicely...also, the aspect ratio is a 55 (180/55-18) which makes it a little "meater" anyway....hope that helps.

Carl, OLLI, has pix of his with a 200 in a stock fender.

It just touches!

If you want a stock fender, stay with the small 180

Yep, agreed

It's just perfect for the Bob, not to wide but fat enough to give it the look

I will have pics of mine soon as my pulley comes back from powdercoating. 200/50/18 Metzeler on 18x5.5 rim. I will be running a lowered stock fender too.

Here is a pic from the other day of the rear wheel being fitted on my bike without the fender on.

That really looks good!!

I have ordered the 180/55 now, since I'm a bit afraid that with the stock fender it will look like a 120 kg (242lb) guy is wearing his jeans too tight
