Sissy Bar Side Plates
so as most know, i ride the best bike in production, as do alot of you
STREEETTTT BOB!!! 09 to be exact
but long story short, im making a sissy bar for my bob. (yes i will post tons of pics! )
i have made a cardboard template for the side plates, but if i can get more exact dimensions it would make potential headache this coming week alot less for myself.
i have both bolts at 0.50" Dia. and from center lines 10.50"
but if you guys have a set of these lyin' around or whatever it would be so much appreciated (i know this is a long shot, but its worth a try) i would love to get the measurements from outer diameter to outer diameter (A). and reassurement on the half inch bolt hole sizes ( B and E ) length of "wire slot" ( D) and also distance between "wire slot" to rear bolt hole (C)

detachable plate of course wont work for me.. and im having trouble finding the info NOW when i need it, but i know these plates also fit another model. but am unsure of which one it is
ok... so i know this probably fits the "custom construction" section etc better... BUT
i figure its bob specific.. and id get more replies here move it if you need to.. ill understand

Can A be from centers, B & E are the same. C will look after itself after you got D down.
These strut dims should be the same on all late dynas.
IMO make a full template off the Bob, draw it out on sheet, measure the centers a bunch of times and then measre your center punches again.
Cut it out of 1.5mm sheet so you can tack up a proper mock up then when ya done tweaking the design break it down and lay it out on whatever material is gonna be the finished deal.
Dunno if any of this is what you asked, I've got up a bit early, gonna go back to sleep now & damn straight Bobs fckin rock.
Let's just hope the lesser members keep off this thread

rock on sk8 you are a true guru.
totally taking your advice. the only thing that sucks is im using my class shop to do all cuts and drilling (plasma and drill press) so my progress will be pretty spread out.
i cant express how nice its gonna be bein able to start a home shop once i actually start pulling in legitimate frog skins
harleys dont run any metric bolts etc? im assuming. all SAE? except for compatible sizes of course picking up more socket and wrenches today to make sure i have every size ill need for my scoot.
and i know your prolly the best person i can ask sk8: what type of lube/grease should i use for my rear axle when reassembling?

bloody Harley are mixing it up with metric and other chit !! been caught out a few times on mine,,
use copper slip,, or i think you guys call it anti seize grease,, i dunno,,, but its a copper grease anyways and it should be used liberally on Harleys!!!
that and loctite for every other feckin thing

no offense to you guys across the puddle.. but youd figure harley would be nothing but SAE with the big "Ol American Steel" hoop-lah
but we are slowly getting closer to pure metric measurement.. makes sense anyway... its a better system
this sissy bar im makin is heavy duty... gonna be 5/8" round bar stock. with a 1/2" "design" between (so i can eventually make an attachable seat pad)
this is a pain in the ass since i dont even have my bike right now. and pressures on because i have my spring break comin up (no shop time).
whats the width of the OEM fender on the bobs? ('09)

Air cool and I dunno why ! Like the struts on the Rockers are torched to cherry to bend and they take forever before you can then jig them up.
Hey did ya notice Riv slipped a post in up there?? I only just saw it, feckin pirate

i thought i saw Riv say something.. but all i understood from in was:
"blah blah blah, lesser member blah, street bobs rock my world"
ive gotten all my plans/designs set and planned out, over this boring weekend dying to to start cutting and fabbin. was going to have a 2" radius of round bend at the top. but thinkin its gonna be too wide. gonna have to find a 1.5" radius. and stressin about not knowin the radius of the fender. havin trouble finding a camera so i can post some pics for critiqueing. gonna go pick up a motorcycle jack from harbor freight to curb the pains of not having my bike

Man that blows
Similar thing happened to Ben once when Lily sat on his matchstick models of Star Trek ships

LMAO who wooda thunk star trek models would be taken so seriously.
one time i made an Eiffel tower out of dryer lint and aerosol lacquer.
my mom through it away calling it junk.. shes obviously never seen a star trek matchstick model
well today i got the 5/8" bar stock bent, a little inconsistancy in the bend (would help if i had a torch buddy ) or a proper jig haha. i felt rushed for some reason.
BUT it shouldnt even be noticeable once "back curve" the tip.
also got the side plate template cut out. plasma cutter = best thing since sliced bread.
(thanks pete for the 1.5mm recommendation! that thickness was cherry)
sad part now is that im waiting to get my bike back so i can fit up the template.
im boycotting cell phones, but i do miss the camera feature quite a bit
try and get some photos posted of the insignificant stuff ive done today.
a pic is a pic right?

hoping to be able to get the inner design welded together and what not without even being able to tell it was welded, hoping the die grinder will help me out alot with that task

piece of cake if you got the time,, you can even disc it down,, the rocker struts are split and welded then disc'd flat..

It's ok I can help you with that. Took me a while to come to terms with what I witnessed in the jacuzi at the Dax Tree House. Put it this way, Joker is still mumbling to himself!
But I am ok now, apart from the odd tick. So let me reach out & help you

i forgot the recommended way to reinstall my rear axle belt tension and what not...
haha ANYWAY... jammin albert king and workin on this sissy bar tom-foolery
fit after a couple passes with round file. refering back to the opening post of this thread, Length A is 9-7/8"
Lengths B & E (Dia.) are 1/2"
Length C really does just figure itself (thanks pete )
Length D is 9/16" x 7/16"...but i guess this could just be a slot for the wire if you lined it up right.
mocked up sissy bar is 27-1/2" from struts to tip... height from top of fender is about 4-5 inches less.
having everything apart is amazing for DEEP CLEANS! ... tomorrow she's gettin attacked.
