Quiet Baffles
What are the benefits of putting the quiet baffles on the vance and hines short shorts staggered? I dont mind the sound of the pipes now, but if the quiet baffles improve HP/TQ then id be interested in buying em.

Got this from V&H Site.
Our Quiet Baffle logo designates an exhaust system compatible with our optional quiet baffles. Baffles are used to reduce the sound levels of exhaust and also aid in the build up of back pressure as shown in the illustration. Every system we manufacture is complete with standard baffles that our engineers design to match the engine and exhaust for the best possible performance and sound quality. Now we also offer quiet baffles for our most popular systems, which provide a reduction of 2-3 dBs of sound volume.
So, no...just sound. Nothing about gaining performance. HOWEVER, if you remove the stock baffles, the bike will loose torque.

One more input from other forum:
Re: vance and hines shortshots? you will lose the torque due to the short pipe and minimal baffling and the pipe not making enough back pressure, even with the quiet baffle fitted you will still lose torque as thats little better than standard baffle, these pipes tho will make good HP at the top end like most drag pipes available, but boy do they look good

Ok, quiet baffles over stock are way more grunty, from pull off right through. BUT if you really want to make a big diff then get the quiet baffles and drill a 12mm hole in the back plate of each one.
The bike really pulls hard and revs straight out in every gear.

I would rather go a bit slower than ever go quietly into the night...
Remember, loud pipes piss people off and they have the ability to drown out the teenage kids playing rap music in their cars at a stop light.

Then ya don't want quiet baffles coz the do mute it. If you check my vids the regular street bob one is with quiet baffles the street bob modified one is with drilled quiet baffles.

Do you have to re map after replacing standard baffles for quiet baffles?

Well, since ya asked.
I dont have V&H quiet baffles in my B.R. I have Big City Thunder quiet series, ( way, way , way different aproach to a "quiet" baffle than what V&H does".)
I find these quiet baffles take the "edge" off the short pipes. Make em a lot less ' tinny' sound, give them a deeper tone.
I did see performance gains at about 1900 to 2300 rpm's, where the BR's had a flat spot, with the stock baffles.

And did these BCT quiet baffles take just more than 2 or 3 db off or not and was it an easy swop cos I want to quieten down my Big Radius pipes cos the police here are gettin' to get really chummy with the sound ..and do you have a link to them ?
Cheers Rick

Yeah, they probably take 3 or 4db off when your putting around town. Probably as loud as the stock baffles when your on it !
They sound better than stock thou.... deeper tone.
Big City Thunder - QQ Thunder Monster Baffles
Some people have mounted them with the stock BR mounting hole, but there supposed to be mounted about 6" from the end of the pipes. Just remove the back shields, and no problems drilling new holes with the pipes on the bike.

That Right? Read the link and they do QQ(QUIET SSSSSH!) baffles for the Big Radius 2-2..lookin for baffles to get the noiz down to a reasonable level for when I pop over to Germany..fuzz there is really chit with loud pipes and I dont want to go through the trouble of mounting the original system...
These baffles increase torque too huh?..sounds like theyre were having..

Yup . Im actually now running the BCT quiet baffles about 7" into the pipes, and roughly half of the stock baffles behind them. I can still set off car alarms when I want to !

Heeeey wot? you cut the original baffles in half, shoved them 7" up inside, screwed them in then shoved the BCT QQ's up in after them and screwed them in aswell ..
ok let me run this to you.given that I have'nt actually seen the original baffles in the raw or in any pics I would think they look like yer regular baffles..like a tube with drilled holes yea? What if you wrapped the originals in sound deadening fibre/steel wool chit stuff you can buy then put them back in..

The oposite. BCT recomends their baffles mounted at least 6" from the end of the pipes. ( not including the tips ) So, QQ baffles are in there first, fastened with new mounting holes, then about 6" of the stock baffle, using the stock mounting hole.
Your not going to wrap the stock baffles in anything. There tight, tight in the pipes.
