Ok, I thought I'd tell you a little bit about my current bike. This bike started when i picked up the classifieds one day in 2003 and found a rolling chassis in the paper, Paugho 127 frame, harley front end, rims, brakes, tank, lights, all unused $1200.00! I called the guy up, went over to see him. Guy bought the frame in 1985 (I still have the MSO) and started collecting parts, he figured if he hadn't built it yet, it probabley wasn't gonna happen. Purchased on the spot.
6 months later I found a 1980 FXWG, original owner. Went and looked at the bike,it was beat to snot, but, it already had a 93" kit, dual plug heads, and it ran. I called Mike at RCC (my engine builder) he said does it run? He said if it runs for that price buy it. SOLD. When we got it to Mikes shop he couldn't understand why it ran, one thing was for sure, it wasn't gonna run much longer, so Mike rebuilt it. It runs fast and hard.
The build took close to two years (I think, time is crusing by right now), and although I was involved in the build, really I had alot of Professional Help. Everything is used parts, except exhaust and the front caliper. It's amazing what soap and water can do (and plating, powder coating, paint and professinal help). Mike built the Motor and Tranny, The tank was modified by another guy I know , its concave, the paint and body work was done By Anthony at Rochester Collision Center, Brian the Brush pulled the stripes and lettering, Dale at Mikes Shop did final assembly. Bike also Runs a 1937 Ford Spare Tire carrier for a back fender and a Model A Tail Light, Anthony modified the front fender so it had the same profile as the rear fender. Cool.
The bike has come out better than anybody, including those involved with building it, expected. It's pretty, it's fast, it's unique. The negatives, It's really hard to ride for a long tome AND it really really sucks down gas. We are supposed to build another one, FLH based and with a suspension, at some point, but I gotta wait until the funds are available.
